Dr Michael Valente

Neurologist (Stroke interest)

I’m an Australian neurologist with a special passion for improving care for people affected by stroke and other neurological conditions.

My main focus is stroke and cerebrovascular disease. I understand the full patient journey because I’m involved at every stage: From the very first moments in the community (working on the Mobile Stroke Unit ambulance in the pre-hospital setting), Through urgent treatments in hospital, To supporting recovery and long-term management after discharge.

I graduated from Monash University and completed my specialist training in neurology in both Melbourne and Sydney. I also hold a PhD from the University of Melbourne, where my research centred on advanced brain imaging techniques to help people experiencing acute stroke.

I remain actively involved in research, with recent first-author publications in leading international journals such as Stroke. I’m a Senior Lecturer at Monash University, a peer reviewer for several medical journals, and I contribute to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as part of its editorial group and as a supervisor for specialist trainees.

I’m committed to staying at the forefront of advances in stroke treatment so my patients can benefit from the latest evidence based approaches.
